The Best Christmas Every Year

Uncategorized No Comments »

In this day and age in the rush and clamor of living we tend to forget the dear moments on Christmas morning when all the shopping and hunting for just the right item (at the right price) pays off and our Dad, finally receives a little thanks and reward for years of love and kindness. Happily because of the Internet it’s easy to find Christmas Gifts for Dad online.

I remember the smile on his face as he pulled back the final bit of wrapping paper to reveal the present within. My dad looked just like a kid again as he pulled that fishing reel out of the box and held it up for all to see. “Imagine the big fish I’ll be able to catch with this fine reel on my pole,” he said and everyone in the room beamed as we could imagine along with him the wonderful fish and times he would have with his new Christmas gift.

Christmas gifts for dad were always a special thing around our dwelling. My father, like many Dads, was a humble man who never asked for anything. More often than not, he’d say “give it to the other guy” or he’d make sure everybody else got theirs before he took any. That’s why Christmas gifts for dad were so special. It was the one time each year when he would accept and really enjoy receiving gifts.

He liked the wrappings, and the pretty bows and would always “ooh and aaahh” as he gingerly tugged at the corner or held the package up to the light. “Just checking”, he would say or when he was feeling mischievous, he’d guess that we’d gotten him a “stuffed cat” or ” a box of pre-digested aardvark fat” with “stony crackers”. We didn’t laugh but smiled and played along with his silly jokes knowing that usually what we’d done for him was likely to be something he’d really wanted.

But gifts for him were relatively easy. He wasn’t fussy and he was always genuinely pleased with whatever he got. Christmas was the time we were able to fulfill the longings and the little hints he’d make over the year about not having “any socks that didn’t have holes” or “I know I could shave at least 6 points off my game if I had a Putter like that”. We just listened, sometimes writing a little note to ourselves or making a quick call when we were alone to confer with another family member about what size or color was the best choice.

It all paid off on Christmas morning. Dad’s beaming face. The sounds of Christmas carols in the background, the fun and excitement as he opened each of his gifts and thanked everyone for choosing exactly the right thing, what he “really” wanted (even if it didn’t quite fit and he would have to return it to get the right size), we all laughed and wished each other a very Merry Christmas.

Christmas is a joyous time and being able to share gifts and time with loved ones and your Dad always makes it the best Christmas every year.

Long Walks And Sciatica

Uncategorized No Comments »

Seems like every time I want to take a long walk, I end up with back pain and then pain shooting down the back of my leg. I’ve had it often enough that I’ve learned that it’s referred to as “sciatica.”

At first I was worried that it was a “disk problem,” which is what it is a lot of the time. I visited a Houston Chiropractor that was able to adjust me and then showed me some stretches to help it out.

Next up, I was in Montana taking a long, long walk. It started to act up again, so I was thrilled to find a Billings Chiropractor available during the time I needed him. He had another machine in addition to being able to use his hands — called a spinal decompression machine. That helped out quite a bit, doing kind of like the old days when you’d just get tractioned out.

Got a lot of relief, but couldn’t quite figure out why a long walk would trigger such a painful event? It was when I was walking at an event and had to visit a Virginia Beach Chiropractor when things became more clear.

I had a sacroiliac problem, also called the “SI joint.” This made a lot of sense. That particular joint is aggravated by walking! Since the joint is supposed to glide smoothly back and forth when you walk (and it wasn’t), then every step just became another way to aggravate things.

Me walking was more like poking a stick in my back the further I went. So it was only a matter of time. Now I get adjusted on a semi-regular basis to make sure that joint is working the way it’s supposed to.

I’ve also followed the stretching advice of my first chiropractor and have seen major improvement in how it all goes together.

Insurance planning is one of the most important steps in family financial planning. Most financial professionals take this step before anything else such as investment planning, tax planning, retirement planning, and etc.. This is because insurance planning set up an alternative solution to handle what if something happens in your life. You or your family do not have to take the consequences, which may mean you could lose everything. Once your have a good insurance plan, you can continue to build up your wealth without worrying about what if something happens. Various types of life insurance are some of the basic insurance products.

Insurance planning is also referred to as risk management. Risk is the possibility that a source of danger turn into a loss. We face all kinds of risks every day, such as getting sick, or having a car accident. The impact from certain risks could be huge for an individual. The insurance companies therefore create various types of insurance products to transfer the individual risk to the insurance company by asking a relatively small amount of premium from the insured person.

People buy life insurance for all kinds of reasons. Some people want to make sure their family will be well taken care of if they die. Some want to set up their estate to try to minimize their tax burden and make sure more of what they have earned goes to their heirs. And there are still others who use life insurance to help them buy out a business partner or to provide additional executive benefits for key employees.

The two types of life insurance are term and permanent life. The one that’s right for you depends on many factors, including your budget, the amount of coverage you need, and the length of time you’d like the coverage to last. Term life insurance provides protection for a limited period of time, such as 10, 15, 20, or 30 years, and pays a benefit if the insured dies during this period. Term policies often provide the most coverage for your premium dollar for set periods of time. Permanent policies can provide lifetime protection. They also have the potential for tax-deferred cash value accumulation.

Since every family is different, and various of term and permanent life insurance have different applications, choosing a life insurance product can be complicated. As with any other major purchase, it is important that you understand your needs and the options available to you before you make your decision.
